How the Appliance Ratio calculator works, what each indicator means, and the formulas behind Live results.

How the calculator flows

  1. Cargo weight — enter a cargo total in Te (manually or by sending a total from the cargo sheet). That Te value is the cargo input to the ratio.
  2. Rigging weight — enter a rigging total in Te (manually or by sending a total from the rigging sheet). That Te value is the rigging input to the ratio.
  3. Contingency & DAF — set the contingency factor and dynamic amplification factor (DAF). Both multiply the combined cargo and rigging weights.
  4. Total weight — the calculator computes total weight from cargo, rigging, contingency, and DAF.
  5. WLL — enter the appliance working load limit (WLL) at radius in Te. Utilization divides total weight by this value.
  6. Utilization / Appliance Ratio — Live results show utilization (also labeled Appliance ratio and Used). Remaining capacity is one minus utilization.
  7. Thresholds & alerts — optional warn and critical utilization thresholds drive visual alerts when enabled.
  8. Capacity chart — Used vs Remaining from the same utilization; over-capacity is called out when utilization exceeds 100%.
  9. Technical report — generate a printable summary of inputs, outputs, formulas, and the chart. Notification number is report metadata only; it is not used in the ratio math.

Definitions

Glossary of every ratio-path input and output on the calculator. Cargo and rigging sheet catalogs, fill rules, and line-item math are not covered here — only the Te totals that feed the formula.

Inputs

Cargo weight (Te)
Cargo total in tonnes. Entered directly or sent as a sheet total. Used only as the cargo Te input to total weight.
Rigging weight (Te)
Rigging total in tonnes. Entered directly or sent as a sheet total. Used only as the rigging Te input to total weight.
Contingency
Weight contingency factor applied to the sum of cargo and rigging (for example 1.05). Must be greater than zero.
DAF
Dynamic amplification factor applied with contingency when computing total weight. Must be greater than zero.
WLL
Appliance working load limit at radius, in Te. Utilization is total weight divided by WLL. Must be greater than zero.
Utilization thresholds — Warn
Ratio at or above which a warning alert appears (default 0.85). Must be less than the critical threshold.
Utilization thresholds — Critical
Ratio at or above which a critical alert appears (default 0.90). Must be greater than the warn threshold.
Utilization thresholds — Enabled
When checked, warn and critical thresholds drive visual alerts. When unchecked, threshold alerts are off.

Outputs and displays

Total weight
Factored lift weight in Te: (cargo weight + rigging weight) × contingency × DAF.
Utilization
Total weight ÷ WLL. The primary Live results figure and the driver for thresholds, alerts, and the capacity chart.
Appliance ratio
Same value as Utilization. Shown as a separate Live results metric for clarity of naming.
Used
Same value as Utilization. Also the “Used” share on the capacity chart (as a percentage of capacity).
Remaining
1 − utilization. When utilization is above 100%, the chart clamps Remaining display to 0% while Used shows the actual percent (which may exceed 100%).
Visual alerts
Messages based on utilization vs warn/critical thresholds (when enabled), or an input error when the calculation cannot run.
Capacity chart
Used vs Remaining from utilization. Over-capacity callout appears when utilization exceeds 100%; Remaining is then shown as 0% on the chart.

Same ratio, three labels. In Live results, Utilization, Appliance ratio, and Used are the same computed ratio (total weight ÷ WLL).

Total weight
Total weight = (cargo weight + rigging weight) × contingency × DAF
Utilization
Utilization = total weight ÷ WLL
Remaining

Remaining = 1 − utilization

On the capacity chart, when utilization is greater than 100%, Remaining is shown as 0% and Used shows the actual percent (which may exceed 100%).
